We are a British owned apparel manufacturing group operating out of Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a part of the growth strategy, the group is currently investing in backward integration. We are looking for an experienced expat production director for our new, state of the art, Eco-friendly, synthetic knitted textile plant of 35 Metric tons/day to be commissioned by July 2022 in Chittagong, Bangladesh.


Job Description:

The plant director will build the team within the textile plant and manage the entire operation. This role will inolve nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and optimization for manufacturing, overseeing all daily operations; knitting, piece and yarn dyeing, finishing, laboratory, engineering / maintenance and water & energy management along with responsibility for delivering a positive P&L. Our cutting edge textile plant will cater to reputable international brands in the athlesiure, sportswear and casual wear markets. Previous experience of working with such brands and understanding standards and requirements is essential.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for end to end management of a new synthetic textile manufacturing plant - knitting to finished fabric
  • Able to work independently with domestic and international suppliers along with customers, agreeing on quality standards, price, delivery and sustainability initiatives
  • Experience of setting up a greenfield synthetic knitted textile plant
  • Knowledge about the latest trends in yarn, fabrics, chemicals and machinery
  • Evaluate machinery selection and provide input into plant design
  • Relentless focus on efficiency, waste reduction, customer satisfaction and delivery of bottom line
  • Implement and assume a leadership role in sustainability, compliance, safety and well-being. Ensuring all international and local environmental & health compliance standards are met as well as pushing the manufacturing plant towards a more sustainable future
  • Working with customers and suppliers to develop business solutions that protect the environment during production and post-delivery of the final product
  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day to day operations from the creation of sales to the finished product
  • Increase capacity utilization and production while reducing costs (capex and opex) whilst maintaining the highest quality levels
  • Implement strategies with board’s direction & initiatives and provide a unique focus and vision for the whole team
  • Focusing on increasing value for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead by four pillars of essential behaviors, Bias for action, empowerment and accountability, adaptability and courageous leadership
  • Duties may be expanded upon and additional duties may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10+ years of proven track record of experience in a similar manufacturing and management environment
  • Fluent in English
  • Bachelor of Science or MSc. in Textile fields or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of textile fabric production and international apparel, clothing brands’ requirements, needs and applicable trends
  • Good verbal, written and communication skills
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to multitask
  • Business and management principles know-how (human resources, strategic planning, personnel development and budgeting)
  • Experience of using lean manufacturing principles in previous positions. Six-sigma Black belt certification preferred.
  • Full commitment to health & safety procedures and safety of all plant personnel
  • Strong team building and people management skills
  • Technical research and development skills to constantly deliver new products
  • Create and lead cross functional teams, facilitate root cause analysis and problem solving on manufacturing issues
  • To be able to culturally adopt, work and live in Bangladesh, having prior work experience in South Asia would be an added advantage.
